Help for Earthquake Victims in Turkey

earthquake in Turkey The Turkish-American community feels sad about the strong earthquake which struck eastern Turkey with a 7.2 magnitude on Sunday, October 23rd. Officials say the death toll in the powerful earthquake that hit eastern Turkey is now 432. The death count is likely to rise further as many people are still missing and 2,262 buildings have collapsed in Sunday's 7.2-magnitude quake.

Deepest Condolences to Norwagians

We at the Rumi Forum wish to express our deep saddness at the tragic and senseless loss of life in Norway. We at the Rumi Forum stand with the people of Norway in this very difficult time, and pray for healing and patience for those who were injured in the attacks and the victims families and loved ones.
   

Deepest sympathies to the people of Japan

The Rumi Forum wishes to extend its deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to the people of Japan, the Japanese American community, and to all of those who have been affected by Friday's tragic earthquake and tsunami.

We hope for the Japanese people and all who were and are affected by this continuing unfolding disaster, relief and patience during this most difficult time.

Condolences to families affected by Israel forest fire

We at the Rumi Forum were deeply saddened to hear the news regarding fires that claimed 41 lives in Israel and we would like to express our condolences to the victims of this disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who died and suffered as a result of this deadly event. We would like to wish families and friends of the victims patience and strength to overcome the sorrow of their loss.

   

Gulen awarded honorary doctorate by Leeds Metropolitan University

M. Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish Muslim scholar, educator and peace activist, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of education by Leeds Metropolitan University for his contribution to education, peace making and intercultural dialogue.

Özcan Keles, executive director of the London-based Dialogue Society charity, accepted the honorary doctorate on Thursday on behalf of Gulen at the university’s summer graduation convocation. “Fethullah Gulen considers this award as recognition of the work and efforts of what is known among academic circles as the Gulen movement or what Gulen himself prefers to call a movement of volunteers,” Keles, said.
