The Turkish-American community feels sad about the strong earthquake which struck eastern Turkey with a 7.2 magnitude on Sunday, October 23rd. Officials say the death toll in the powerful earthquake that hit eastern Turkey is now 432. The death count is likely to rise further as many people are still missing and 2,262 buildings have collapsed in Sunday's 7.2-magnitude quake.

We at the Rumi Forum stand with the people of Norway in this very difficult time, and pray for healing and patience for those who were injured in the attacks and the victims families and loved ones.

M. Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish Muslim scholar, educator and peace activist, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of education by Leeds Metropolitan University for his contribution to education, peace making and intercultural dialogue.
Özcan Keles, executive director of the London-based Dialogue Society charity, accepted the honorary doctorate on Thursday on behalf of Gulen at the university’s summer graduation convocation. “Fethullah Gulen considers this award as recognition of the work and efforts of what is known among academic circles as the Gulen movement or what Gulen himself prefers to call a movement of volunteers,” Keles, said.
Fethullah Gulen is regarded as the founder and inspirer of the global social movement known as the Hizmet (Service) Movement, more popularly known as the Gulen Movement.
